Case study

Designing App that Notify User About Crisis Within Nigeria

My Role

I worked on all aspects of the design including user research, interviews, paper and digital wireframing, prototyping, usability studies, and design iterations.

Project Goal

The goal of this project is to design an app that helps notify the user's of any crisis or social unrest that is happening around or within them. I embark on this project because of the recent killings, burning abd shooting that is going on in Nigeria.

Target Audience

Parents / Teenagers / Age 18 - 50

Research Study

I conducted interviews to learn more about the people for whom I'm designing. Some people claim that it is very inconvenient for them to check the internet every day or time to see what is going on.

Some claim that they had to go through the local newspaper vendor and buy two different publications and read them to figure out what was going on.

User Pain Points

1 - Long Queue

Every morning, there is a long line at the vendor location, making it inconvenient to buy.

2 - Time taking

It can take a long time to search the internet for information.

Persona's

I created a persona that will represent the user

Wireframe

I used paper and pencil to draw out how the product would look based on the personas and problem description for this case study, then transformed the design into a digital wireframe.

Digital Wireframe

Low-Fidelity Prototype

usability study

After creating my Digital Wireframe, I conducted a Usability Study for the product and made some changes based on the feedback I received after the Usability Study.

Research Questions

1. How long does it take for a user to add / view events

2. Are users able to successfully add new events/ view event?

3. Are there any parts of the iNotify app process where users are getting stuck?

Participants

5 participants

2 Males, 2 female and 1 non-binary individual between the age of 18-50

Adjustment Made After Feedback

ADD NEW EVENT SCREEN
User indicated that they can't add files to for the event that they want to post, so they needed a way to add files like image or video. In the redesign of this screen i added a way to includes file, audio and emoji too
HOME SCREEN
On the Home Screen, some of the user cannot understand the "button with a plus (+). They want it to have a text to it which will show the clear meaning of what the button do

Mockups/High-fidelity

The Mockup is the final polished design for the product

Going Forward

Conclusion

Users shared that the app made it easy to get notified about anything threat or crisis in or within our environment. And with the production of this app, it will contribute to save life

What i Learned

I learned that even though the problem I was trying to solve was a big one, diligently going through each step of the design process and aligning with specific user needs helped me come up with solutions that were both feasible and useful.

Next Step

Accessibility: The study did not include any participants with visual impairments. While I had the aim to do so, locating someone with such difficulties who also went to the movies was challenging.

Conduct another round of usability studies to validate whether the pain points users experienced have been effectively addressed
